The following book is where I learned how to build character puppets without using bones: [link] It was written for Flash 8, but it's still useful for newer versions. Also, Fun Fact™: My Little Pony is animated with Flash 8, too.
I will probably release the FLA for the entire project once it's done. But I hope to have something even more useful ready by then.
I see what you mean. I think the problem is that I restricted myself to animating on two's when I didn't have to, and probably shouldn't have. Adding more in-betweens wouldn't be a problem necessarily, though I think any jerkiness or stiffness is a lot harder to see when this is part of a larger scene like it's meant to be.
...however, the swollen cheeks (or whatever you call it) when her mouth is widely open don't do it on her face. it's just... weird. if not, the whole animation is perfect.
By "don't do it", do you mean that they shouldn't be there? Because I could swear I used a screenshot from the show as reference for that, but now I can't find where it's from, so maybe those cheek bulges shouldn't be there after all.
